Good luck to all of our wrestlers competing in the Ozark District Tournament this weekend! We were sad to miss a whole week of practice but hopeful that the weather will cooperate next week.
We have one AAU tournament remaining on the schedule before the AAU season ends with the AAU State Tournament in March, and that is the Jr. Trojans tournament at Troy High School next Sunday, Feb. 21. Details can be found on the flier: https://find2.aausports.org/play/event-files/flyers/af44b305-0a92-485e-9027-75bf052bce92_flyer.pdf Please register (as usual, Venmo or send cash or check to practice with wrestler's name and tournament name) by Thursday, Feb. 18. Junior Spartans who were at least 7 years old on Jan. 1 are also eligible to participate in the USA Wrestling Missouri state series. (Mini Spartans who are old enough may participate, but they will have to purchase a USA Wrestling card at additional cost; contact me for details.) This tournament series does not separate wrestlers based on skill level, and age groups are 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U, based on age as of Jan. 1. The MO USA District 8 Tournament is a qualifying event for the MO USA Region D Tournament, which is in turn a qualifying event for the MO USA State Tournament. You should only sign your child up for this series if you are available and willing to attend all three events should your child advance. Travel will be required to Cape Girardeau for districts and regionals and to KC for the state tournament. Fees for the next tournament are due on the spot upon qualifying. Weigh-ins are required, and your child must stay in the same weight class for the duration of the series. Also, you should be aware that our coaching staff will be thin at these tournaments this year because of abnormal conflicts with the high-school sectional and state tournaments (due to the Covid-related changes this year). We encourage parents to pursue obtaining their USA coaching credentials so they can ensure that their child always has a coach when needed. Info on this process can be found here: https://www.missouriusawrestling.org/page/show/973104-coaches-clinics-and-info IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COMPETE IN THIS TOURNAMENT, please register as usual by sending the $20 fee by Venmo, cash or check, along with weight class selection, as soon as possible, but no later than Thursday, Feb. 18. Flier can can be found below or on TrackWrestling.com by searching events for Missouri USA District 8. Weight classes for each age group are listed on the flier.
