Tournament Time!

11/28/2020

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, even if it wasn't a normal one!

Here a few reminders and hints before Sunday's tournament, along with our roster and the schedule for the day:
  • Remember, only one parent or adult may accompany each wrestler, and no children not wrestling in that session may enter. Only the doors at the auditorium entrance will be open, and check-in will take place inside those doors. Everyone will have their temperature taken, get checked in and receive a wristband good for that session only. Everyone must remain masked at all times except while wrestling a match.

  • Upon entering, be sure to find your child's bracket on the wall. They will be arranged by age division, from lightest to heaviest weight groups. There will be a mat number listed on each bracket. This is where all of that bracket's matches will take place. Mats will be located in the main gym, in the back gym and in the cafe. You'll want to snap a pic of the bracket so you have it for reference. Once at the mat, your child can find a familiar Spartan practice partner and warm up. When it is time to start, wrestlers will be asked to either sit around their assigned mat or in the first row of bleachers, depending on location.

  • When it is almost time for your wrestler's match, his or her name will be called by the table workers. They can then remove their shorts & T-shirts and give to their coach or parent. Please make sure all wrestlers know that they should never start wrestling unless they have a coach matside. It may or may not be one they are familiar with, but our club coaches will be wearing Spartan shirts for easy recognition. In a normal year, there would be handshakes before and after matches, but those will not take place this year, nor will winners' hands be raised. Once each bracket's matches are complete, the table workers will determine the first-, second- and third-place winners, and medals will be awarded at the table. You are then free to leave. Normally, you could plan to be at the tournament for several hours; however, this year, we should have you out in less than 90 minutes.

  • The building will be emptied between sessions (with the exception of our workers), and all surfaces will be cleaned before the building opens again for the next session.

  • It is suggested that you arrive around 45 minutes prior to your session. Signs will be posted on the doors when the building is ready for your session. You can also follow tournament updates on our Facebook event page at https://fb.me/e/1IDxDKDGi  We will make announcements there when the building is ready for your session.

  • If you have questions or need help at any time, you can visit the tournament head table located in the main gym, and someone will be happy to help you.

  • Limited concessions will be available, meaning drinks and prepackaged snack items.

  • Thanks to all who volunteered to help! Please arrive at the times that have been provided on the Signup Genius (or by our volunteer coordinator, Meghan Hernandez).

Tot/Bantam (doors open 8 a.m., begin at 9 a.m.)
Midget (watch FB for announcement that doors open; tentatively begin at 11 a.m.)
Novice (watch FB for announcement that doors open; tentatively begin at 1 p.m.)
Schoolboy/Cadet (watch FB for announcement that doors open; tentatively begin at 3 p.m.)

Good luck to all of our Spartan wrestlers! We hope they have a great start to the season!
