Hi everyone,
I hope everyone had a good weekend. We had a good sized group compete at Howell North today, and although I think it went a bit later than our tournament did, it sounds like it went well for the most part. That said, we cannot stress enough how important it is that all of our club families respect the rules of every tournament they attend, especially regarding mask wearing. We heard that Coach Brown at FHN had to threaten to stop the tournament late in the day if the wrestlers did not properly wear their masks when they were not wrestling. We had similar issues last week in our last session of the day with both the older wrestlers and their parents. While there was no complaint specific to our club, it is essential that our parents have masks covering nose and mouth for the entire duration (including while coaching matside), and for wrestlers to wear them at all times except during their actual match. After the match ends, mask goes back on. In addition, our high school coaches received an email this week from the FHC administration informing them that they would not hesitate to shut down junior sports programs if participants were seen in the hallways or common areas without masks. There had been reports of kids in the hallways without masks one evening. We believe this was associated with a different program, but wanted to take this opportunity to reiterate a few rules of engagement for our youth program: - No parent spectators may be in the building, with the exception of one parent for each Mini-Spartan (2nd grade and under) if desired. Mini-Spartan parents who do stay for practice must remain masked and social distanced the entire time (which I think they have been doing a good job of so far). Absolutely no siblings. This applies to both rooms. -Wrestlers must wear a mask to and from practice, taking it off when they are getting ready to wrestle, and putting it back on before they leave their practice area. Please make sure they have a clean place to store their mask during practice. -Wrestlers must bring their own water. Although the water fountains may be running, they are off-limits at this time. -Continue to keep your kids home from practice if they are quarantined from school or are not feeling 100%. Remember, there are cameras in all the common areas of the building and the footage can be referenced by administrators if there are complaints against our program. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation. Upcoming Tournaments Our schedule is definitely thin this year, and I can only tell you what is happening a week or two in advance. Next up is Hawk Brawl on 12/12 for Tots, Bantams & Novices and 12/13 for Midgets, Schoolboys & Cadets. This is hosted by the Hillsboro Wrestling Club and will be held at the Quality Inn Conference Center in Festus. We are NOT going to send club coaches to this tournament, although you may take your child on your own if you choose, and registration is on your own. I am including a full roster containing everyone's AAU numbers in this email for your use in registering if you decide to go. If you are going and are willing to coach other kids, let me know which session you'll be there for and I'll pass the word on.
