We're in the home stretch of the season - time to rev things up!
There's just about a month left of the AAU wrestling season, and a couple of weeks more for those participating in the USA series! Exciting opportunities await!
This week's schedule:
Tuesday: Practice 6 p.m. for all levels.
Registration for Sunday's Jr. Patriot tournament due at end of practice. Don't forget to make sure your child has weighed in if competing!
Wednesday: Bonus practice with Coach Blake for anyone who wants extra mat time, 7-8:30. There is also the last home dual (and senior night) for the high school team vs Fort Zumwalt West beginning at 6 p.m.
Thursday: Practice 6 p.m.
Note that some of these have deadlines that fall during the high-school wrestling state tournament Feb. 20-22, so we have adjusted our deadlines accordingly to make sure we have all the registrations before the state tournament begins.
Fox Jag-Warrior Tournament: Sunday, Feb. 23. @ Fox HS
This one has an early deadline. Sign up by Thursday, Feb. 13.
Everyone gets a medal!
AAU State @ St. Charles West
Saturday, Feb. 29 (Gold/Rookie and all Tots)
Sunday, March 1 (Blue/Experienced)
This is the final leg of the Triple Crown series.
Weigh-ins are required, but anyone who wrestled in USA Districts on Saturday can use that weigh-in for AAU State IF you email the tournament director and let them know in advance that you plan to do so. If the weight classes aren't exactly the same, make sure the wrestler weighs in at the lower of the two weights for the District tournament, or else it will not count. See the flier for details.
Sign up with us by Tuesday, Feb. 18.
See the flier here.
The USA State Series
Feb. 29 at Seckman HS - District 8 Tournament
The top six wrestlers in each bracket qualify for the Region D tournament.
Each qualifying wrestler must pay $20 fee for Regionals before leaving the District Tournament.
Wrestler must remain at the same weight class for the duration of the series.
Do not sign up unless you are committed to attend all three events if qualifying.
Sign up with us by Tuesday, Feb. 18 or on your own through Trackwrestling.com by Feb. 22.
See the flier below.
March 7 at Jackson HS - Region D Tournament
March 13-14 at Hyvee Arena in KC - Missouri USA State Tournament
Top four finishers in each bracket advance to USA State Tournament. Each qualifying wrestler must pay the state fee (was $30 last year) before leaving the District Tournament. Wrestlers will also be given the opportunity to order Spartan State Team shirts for themselves and their families. Payment will be due on site.
Age groups (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) are determined by age as of Dec. 31, 2019. The series is open to wrestlers who were 7 or older on Jan. 1, 2020. No 6U wrestlers allowed. (No wrestling up in age.)
If your child has not participated in a USA Wrestling tournament this season, he/she will need a USA card. Email email@example.com ASAP if you have not attended a USA tournament yet this season but plan to do the USA state series, so I can get the card in process.
Special note for parents or coaches who have USA coaching cards (aka Wrestling Leader cards): To be valid for coaching at any point during the state series, these cards must be at least Bronze level AND contain a photo of you. See the Missouri USA Wrestling site for directions on how to accomplish this, and don't wait until the last minute, as photos must be approved in advance. https://www.missouriusawrestling.org/page/show/929692-welcome-to-missouri-usa-wrestling
Qualifying for State is a great accomplishment for a wrestler, and the Spartans have a long list of former champions and placers. Let's continue the tradition and get great participation!
The final practice of the season will be Thursday, Feb. 27 for wrestlers NOT participating in the USA State series. The USA wrestlers will continue their practice schedule through the conclusion of the USA State Tournament, and all participating wrestlers are welcome to attend all practices whether they do or do not qualify for the next round.
If you placed an order with round two of the online store, we are hoping to have those orders next week some time. I'll keep you posted on delivery date. If everyone can make arrangements to pick up their orders on the same day, that will make things easier for us.
Year-End Banquet Volunteer
Each year, we hold a year-end banquet of some sort to celebrate our wrestlers' successes. If you'd like to be involved in this planning process, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Planning involves selection of date and venue, assistance with awards/decor/food, etc., and coordination of RSVPs.
